Dil walon ka shehar Delhi

The lavish highways the broad roads, the luxurious lanes all these appropriately define the capital city of Delhi. Delhi is just not the capital of our country by namesake but its qualities prove that it is worth maintaining the status. The English had made Kolkata as their capital city but it was their wisdom which made them move their capital city to Delhi
.
As soon as you enter the city you feel mesmerized by the lavish roads in here. Delhi is now completely connected with all modes of transport. Having an area of 1,484 kmand having all of it connected with some or the other modes of transportation is not an easy job. Delhi is fortunate enough to have metros, buses, auto, rickshaws and sharing autos as prime modes of transportation. Every delhite would support me when I say that this is the best city to travel in. all the modes are easily accessible and user friendly apart from being cheap. If anyone would want to drive in his own personal vehicle that option Is also available. Delhi is well connected with roads and highways throughout. While NH10 connects delhi to the end town of Fazilka in Punjab near Indo pak border,  NH24 connects Delhi to Uttar Pradesh state capital – Lucknow via Ghaziabad, Moradabad and sitapur. All this shows how well connected Delhi is with other neighbouring regions. For a state like delhi it is also important to maintain such link as it Is expanding day in and day out. The outgrowth of national capital region is a testimony to this fact. Vaishali vasundhara in the east and Gurgaon and Faridabad in south are emerging regions near Delhi which are as important as the national capital. People from small cities migrate to Delhi with hopes of leading a better quality of life and they settle here. So it is important that thee people are well connected with the rest of Delhi. The starting of new metro lines from vaishali to Dwarka has eased the lives of many people.

When it comes to design the capital city enjoys its own special place. The city has a blend of historical Mughal era combined with the classy English royal touch in some places to the very modern era of free independent India. The places in Delhi are well designed keeping in mind the people inhabiting the area there. Like earlier people who were refugees from Bangladesh settles in chittaranjan park which has ow transformed to mini Calcutta. Likewise Punjabi bagh and tagore garden area are mostly inhabited by refugees from Pakistan.

When u look at modern delhi you look at vishwavidyalaya in north delhi which is a university area. Most of the colleges of delhi university are located here which makes it a student hub. In a similar way the design of the city has been made with so much ease that all the areas are well defined and well demarcated as to have a proper order.

Delhi is not Delhi because it is the national capital, Delhi is the national capital because no other city has such a well structured design and connectivity as it has.

Fruit cream

My best friend was lying down in her bed unable to even get up due to her unbearable back pain. She had recently met with an accident (not a serious one though!!) while driving her scooty. Since then she had this back pain which grew more intense as night crept in. maybe it was related to the amount of cold in the atmosphere. Whatever the reason my friend Parul was in severe pain and I was unable to do anything to ease her.

I asked her if I could do anything to relieve her of her pain or if there was anything she would want to do or eat. As soon as I had uttered the word “food”, her eyes widened. I must confess here that she is big foodie. True to her genes, she is a Bengali in every sense. She is as sweet as rosugulla and her weakness is food in general and sweet dishes in particular.

She looked at me with her big dark eyes and uttered softly that she wanted to eat something sweet. It was 11 pm by the clock. I wondered how on earth am I supposed to fulfil that wish of hers. She was the cook not I. I cannot just go to the kitchen and make anything delicious. But I had to do something. I assured her that I would make something for her.

I went to the kitchen and started looking for things. I had no idea what I was looking for but I kept on searching. Nothing was coming in my mind and then I saw some fruits on the dining table. My eyes glistened as an idea pooped into my mind. I hurriedly checked the cupboards and to my utter pleasure I found what I was looking for – cream. Yes!! I would make her “fruit cream”. I had once saw her making that and I had found it utterly simple.

I took some fruits like apples, apricots and oranges and started chopping them into tiny bits. The chopping was the tricky part here as I had to make sure that all the fruits are cut into very small pieces and look similar in shape. Meanwhile I had poured the cream into a container and added some “Sugar free natura” to it.

Parul was a foodie but she took great care of her health. She always used sugar free natura to make her sweet dishes so that she wouldn't get fat. With the frequency and volume of her diet, no other alternative seemed feasible. Sugar free natura made her life simple and better.

After chopping all the fruits I carefully put them in the bowl containing the cream. I mixed them all well and lastly I garnished it with oranges. I neatly put the bowl in a tray and hurried to her room where Parul was still whining in pain. She took the first bite and for a moment I thought her pain had all gone away as she hugged me tightly. She had loved the dish and was very happy to see how hard I had worked. I was very happy and proud of myself as I watched her eat the fruit cream.  She offered me a few bites ( which is very rare) and I happily took them.

Either her pain killers had worked or my fruit cream had, but she looked very relieved and sleepy. I switched off her room lights as I went out of her room to keep the bowl back into the sink. As I walked past her room I could hear her snoring and I felt peace knowing that my friend is not in pain any more.

Tata Sky + Transfer to the rescue

With winning the most number of Emmy awards recently Game of Thrones series has added another feather to its much acclaimed hat. This success is not ephemeral. Since the beginning of this T.V series it has managed to attract the much needed attention and in turn has gained lots of popularity. According to a top survey, the series is at fifth rank in the list of “Series you must watch before you die.”

All this popularity however was an added incentive for me. For me the main attraction developed when I had finished reading the novel series by George R.R Martin by the name “A song of Ice and Fire.” I was so much addicted to this book that I used to carry it everywhere and whenever I would get free time I would read it.

When the series started being broadcasted on television my addiction had reached the level of obsessiveness. The fantasies which form the basis of this secretive plot is spellbinding. The story revolves around the struggles of noblemen and kings in the fictional town of Westeros . As the plot thickens many new chapters have emerged such as white walkers , dragons , warg and supposedly the league of assassins which has made the plot more interesting. Though season 1 was a near direct adaptation of the novel, the subsequent series have changed their plots drastically to suit the audience demand.

This has made watching each and every episode kind of a thrilling experience. Every time you watch, you hope that your favourite character does not gets killed, murdered or assassinated in the episode, when he does (which actually is most of the times) we have a new favourite by the next episode. The plot sometimes is so twisted that a character whom we used to hate earlier, in the due course of the series becomes our favourite. For example, earlier I did not like the character of Tyrion Lanister much, but in the later episodes you can’t help but feel sorry for him and then feel proud for his doings on his behalf. His struggles and passion for life are something to get inspired from.

Recently the fifth season of the series was broadcasted on television. But as it happens the timing of its premier is not in sync with the Indian standard time. The show premiers at round early morning in India when everybody is sleeping. For me it is very inconvenient to watch as I have to get up early for my college. But I cannot miss to afford it also. So here comes “Tata Sky + Transfer” to the rescue. With its transfer feature I can record the show late at night and in the morning while going to college I transfer it to be mobile. The HD video recording makes it more attractive to watch. I usually watch all the episodes which I have transferred to my mobile on my way to the college in metro.  I enjoy watching the latest episodes along with my friends and people sitting nearby and we all indulge in a state of pure ecstasy of watching game of thrones early in the morning.

The tata sky + Transfer has 500 MB hard disk in which lots of data can be stored. All my favorite movies which gets premiered and I am unable to watch are recorded and stored in that hard disk for me to watch when and where I like it. Tata sky + Transfer has made my life much simpler and lot interesting. Now I do not miss even a single episode of my favorite serial nor do I miss any movie. I can make plans according to my wish not even thinking twice about my serial show time. I can be assured that the serial would have been recorded and stored properly for me to watch later. Thanks to Tata Sky + !!!!

A balanced diet

My mother always used to say that a healthy and balanced diet is the secret to a long and happy life. She would always make it a point to include green leafy vegetables in our lunch and insisted us on having lots of fruits. She would make all kinds of fruit salads and fruit shakes depending on the availability of the fruit in that season. So I always had a healthy diet during my growing up years which has now become my habit.

My college friends indulge in all sorts of junk food and I keep on telling them that all those food will harm in later future. As girls we should be more careful with our diet and maintain a good health so that there is no trouble in the future. But my friends like any other teenager never pay heed to what I say and indulge in all delicacies. It is after a few months they realized how big a mistake they had committed as their weights had increased. A week later was our fresher’s party and they found it hard to fit in their evening dresses. My friends got very worried and they thought of going on a crash diet.
They believed that as the party is in a week crash diet would help them easily. I was reminded of my mother who was always against any form of dieting. I advised my friends to not look at the weight problem as anything of short term as that will haunt them forever in their lives if they don’t take a permanent step. I advised them to do yoga and take a balanced diet which would include lots of fruits and vegetables. A crash diet would compromise on the nutritional intake as a balanced diet not only includes proteins but also small portions of carbohydrates, dairy products and starch. All these nutrients would not be going into our system if we go into a crash diet. A crash diet though effective in short term should always be done in consultation with a physician.
Balanced diet

My friends understood the seriousness of the situation and they realized their mistake. I suggested them to wear a body shape wear for their party which would temporarily hide their weight. But for a long term solution they should take into account all aspects most importantly that of their own bodies. So from next day onwards itself I along with my friends started practicing Yoga early in the morning. We had planned out our entire meal course keeping in mind that we take very little of sugar or fat. Our main aim was to keep our self-control during those odd hours when one feeds on junk food. So we decided to store various forms of fruit and make fruit salad whenever we felt hungry. Corn in different forms was also one of our favorite snacks.

Yes we did a lot of sacrifices but then sometimes we allowed ourselves to cheat which we would compensate by doing Yoga a bit more the next day. Our sacrifices did really paid off and within two months everyone had reduced those extra fats. My friend thanked me for guiding them but it was then I remembered that all this would not have been possible without my mother who had inculcated this good habit in me from my childhood. It was she who made me realize the importance of a balanced and healthy diet.

Groovy Playlist

I am a passionate dancer and my music for dance varies from western song to desi bollywood songs. In english songs Shakira has been favourite as her songs have the peppiness as well as the sexiness which can motivate anyone to dance.

So the first song that has to be in my playlist has to be Hips Don't Lie by Shakira. in this song you tend to get mesmerised by her sexy belly dancing. the rap adds to the funkiness and one can't stop moving to its beats..

After shakira my playlist would definitely have JLo aka Jennifer Lopez. Her song On the dance floor has been one of the best chartbusters and this song has been a party anthem for many social gatherings. Jennifer Lopez looks very sexy in this music video and her dance moves are very groovy. The feat by pitbull adds to the music video a different feel which enhances its appeal. Being a party anthem this music is sure got to be in my playlist.

The third song in my playlist would be of Enrique Iglesias. The song "tonight I am loving you" has made me jump up from my bed and dance to his tunes. The song is mysteriously sexy and passionate. Even the music video boasts of the same with enrique featuring in it. The lyrics make your hearts skip a beat and you can't help but dancing on it. I make it a point to play this song at all my parties.

Coming to our desi bollywood songs now. The song which tops my bollywood playlist nowadays is "Manali Trance" which has been featured in the movie "Shaukeens". Lisa Hayden is the lead actress in the song who performs with a panache. Her sensual moves and her attitude makes the song admirable. The feat has been given by Yo Yo Honey Singh which makes it all the more peppy. The song is appropriate for parties and clubs where dancing is the main task to ward off all the tension.

Next in my playlist has to be one of my favourite actresses of all time song "Dum Maaro Dum" by Deepika Padukone. Deepika is an amazing dancer and she proves it again in this item number. The song is a transformed version of the retro song with the same name. The beats are really appropriate for dancing and the lines makes you dance. The dance steps are easy to catch and listening to the song makes you dance yourself.

Recently released Tanu Weds Manu Returns song "banno" is next in my playlist. This song as has "swagger" as the lyrics say. The lyrics are a funky and makes you feel connected. It comes as a shaadi song in the movie and it fulfils all the qualities of being one. Kangana Ranaut the protagonist of the movie who has a double role is seen dancing in this song. The steps are so in sync with the song that you can't help but copy them. This is one of the most popular songs of today.

The next song is from this movie itself titled " Ghani Bawri" . The song showcases the protagonist dancing on her beloved's barrat. kangana ranaut is simply awesome as her dance moves and expression are just mind blowing. When you listen to the song you feel sympathetic towards Kangana but the song is so full of energy that it forces us to get up from our place and dance.

"Chittiyaan Kaliyaan" is the song which you would find next in my playlist. The song features jacqueline fernandes and the beats are so peppy and energetic that you feel very energetic. The lyrics are a mix of punabi and Hindi which adds to its quality. The number is specially appropriate girls night out as the lyrics can be related by us.

Lastly any party is incomplete without "baby doll" featuring Sunny Leone. This song is so cool and sensuous that we can not stop ourselves from dancing. Sunny Leone looks lovely in this song and her main step from this song has been very popular. This energetic song makes my playlist complete.

Cricket: It is not just a game

In India cricket is more than just a game. It is a religion which every Indian follows ardently. Whether it is a ODI game or a test cricket or the recent T20 games we Indians love to watch it all especially when India is playing. We make it a point to re-schedule our appointments and engagements so that it does not fall on the same time. No matter how important the work we make it a point to watch the match without interruptions.

I have been brought up in a family who are really passionate about sports especially cricket. And what we love most is the feeling of togetherness we feel when we sit in our living room with all the family members and cheer for team India. We sometimes used to call over our neighbors also to watch the match with us.

However after going away to a hostel I miss all those family time when we used to sit in front of T.V and watch cricket match. My father would take a leave from his work and my brother would bunk his college and my mother would cook snacks for us which we would all devour along with enjoying the match.

In hostel we hardly get time to do any other recreational activity let alone watching television. To top it we had our exams a day after the England India ODI series.  I was in a dilemma as to what I should do. I can’t compromise my exams nor could I compromise my passion for watching cricket. I tried hard to concentrate my attention towards my studies but my mind kept wandering off to the match. After much thought I opened my laptop and went to the respective channel which was broadcasting the match.

Our college Wi-Fi allowed me to watch uninterrupted streaming of the live match on my laptop. After watching an over, I started feeling nervous about my exam the next day. So I opened another web page and started studying my course. At regular intervals I switched back to the live streaming to watch the exciting match between England and India.

My friends thought I was a bit crazy doing this juggling between my studies and cricket. I realized they won’t understand the passion I have for cricket. The match ended at around 10:30 pm at night and by then I had completed the numerical part of my syllabus. Only the theory portion was left to be revised. I was elated as not only I had managed to study and watch the match together but also that India had won the first match of the series. Virat kohli was awarded the man of the match and I watched in awe as he received his award for a not out innings of 101* which helped India won the match in less than 50 overs.

After the award ceremony I switched off my laptop and began studying for the exam tomorrow revising what was left untouched. I called my parents the next day to share with them how I had watched the entire match on my laptop. Though they were a bit angry as they thought I would have compromised my studies for that but when I told them that I had performed in my exams really well they were a bit relieved. They told me I had managed to balance both my studies and my passion for cricket without compromising either which was commendable.

Chocolate honey bar granola

As a kid I hated when my mother used to give me chapatti and sabzi for lunch. I remember how I used to pester my mother to give me new delicacies every day and my poor mother tried her best to come up with new recipes daily. Now when I live in hostel and I eat regular mess food and crib about it, I realize how much trouble I used to create for my mother. Here instead of cribbing we can’t do anything more but now we have decided that whenever food is not worthy of consumption we will make something on our own. Generally our experiments end with making noodles or pasta but we realized how unhealthy eating those foods on a regular basis can be. So we decided to experiment with something which can be eaten as a snack and can be filling also.

All of my friends have a sweet tooth so it was mutually finalized that all will try to make some or other kind of sweet dish. I thought of making a chocolate bar honey granola which would be tasty and filling also as it would have lots of sugar which would give us energy. So I went to our mess along with all the ingredients and started the procedure.

STEP 1: I took around 4 to 5 spoons of sugar and started heating it on a pan till it turned golden honey brown. Care should be taken that the stirring should not be done with the help of a spoon and the gas should be turned off as soon as the sugar gets caramelized.
STEP 2: Now when the gas is turned off we need to add some butter and honey and mix well.
STEP 3: Add now some nuts, oats, crushed cornflakes and some chocolate powder. We will mix them well till it all joins properly.
STEP 4: We will take it out and place it on butter paper and form into one thick rectangular bar. We can cut them into tiny bars and wrap them individually in butter paper and store them in cool place.

Our chocolate bar honey granola is ready in just four steps. I gave each of my friends a bar to taste and they loved it. The flavor of honey with nuts and chocolate was delicious. Some of my friends added some chocolate sauce on top of it and it looked as well as tasted heavenly. I stored the rest in an air tight container.

After that day the frequency of my friends visiting my room has increased as they can’t stay away from the granola for much long. It is one of our best snacks for midnight munching.

A five step Chic Chignon

What would you get if you have a combination of sleeping beauty and Rapunzel? Apparently, you will get me. Yes I resemble these fairy characters a lot as I love to sleep and have long lustrous hair like Rapunzel. Though you may feel these two are a great combination however for me the result is not quite satisfactory.

As I love sleeping so I am generally late for my college and I end up making a regular braid or a regular bun. My friends keep complaining that I don’t take care of my hair much and I should get up a bit early so that I could manage my time and experiment with different hairstyles. However I soon realized that getting up early is not my cup of tea. So I used to make regular braid or a bun as they were my only options.

It was then I read about this article on rewardme.in that caught my attention. It was a simple five step chic chignon https://www.rewardme.in/beauty/hair-care/article/how-to-master-the-chic-chignon. I was at once attracted to this article as my hair though silky tends to get dry in a day or two. And to wear this hairstyle, dry hair is preferred.

I read the article thoroughly and began experimenting with the look. I love to make buns as they are comfortable and it doesn’t let any hair come on your face which makes any task hassle free. I started doing my hair as it was instructed and the end result was great.

The next morning though I got up at the same time I usually get up but I still managed to make my super fantastic chic bun. The bun was neatly done and it gave a very pleasing visual look. My friends did not believe that I had done some other hairstyle. They loved the look and some even asked for my help regarding the making of that bun for them. I realized that this bun was comparatively less heavy than my regular bun and that made my head comfortable.

My friends advised me to enhance the look by adding some accessories and doing some experiments. So we brought a few hairbands and a few bobby pins of various designs and colors and turned my chic look into a classy one. Also I started twisting my front bangs like in Victorian style and saw that it gave my bun a very elegant look. I started wearing that hair do both with my western as well as ethnic attire.

My look changed completely and I started receiving a lot of compliments for this donut like hair do. Rewardme.in saved me from a lifetime of complaints and made me famous. Finally I received the compliments which my hair deserved.

A beautiful journey:Mother daughter to sisters

“Mummy, this earring is not going well with your kurti, try something funkier” or “Mummy you should put this colour nail paint, it will suit your skin tone” or “kajal looks better on you than eye liner does”. These are some of the advices that I give to my mother on a daily basis as she has never been the person to take much care about her looks or fashion. This portrays how times have changed and for the good. Now I am the official makeover artist for my mother who with her hard work and sacrifices made our home a happy place to live in.

Since my childhood I have been very passionate about the fashion trends and more than that I used to like to experiment with those fashion styles. On the other hand my mother who is a very beautiful woman never took much care of her looks. Her ideal make up would be to dab a few puffs of compact powder, a bit of lipstick for her voluminous glossy lips and her eternal red bindi accompanied with her sindoor. That simplicity used to blow my mind over and I remember just staring at her while she used to get ready for a party. She is the perfect home maker in whose world everything is beautifully kept and arranged neatly and it is from her that I have taken the habit of maintaining everything properly.

While I started growing up I began to take a fond interest in the world of fashion. I started reading magazines and watching videos to enable me to have a better perspective. At this time I noticed my mother ageing but very gracefully. Her beauty still didn't demand any additional touch but I insisted to experiment with a few things. I realized that she as a mother of two had been so busy with her life that she didn't get time for herself ever. Now when we have grown up it was time that we children took care of her in whatever ways we could. So from there I began my journey as her official make up cum fashion adviser. Whatever new hairstyles I used to learn I used to experiment on her beautiful lustrous hair which ran down till her waist. And with every hairstyle she looked amazing.

While I did dedicate my time on enhancing her outer beauty, she ,on the other hand, would help me in my studies and try her best to enhance my inner beauty. She always used to say that all these fashion and make up are ephemeral what is of utmost important is knowledge. It is just because of her that I never used to compromise on my studies. My teachers would ask me how did I manage to do well in academics and also in extracurricular and I used to say that my mother taught me to manage everything in a balanced way.

At home I would dress her up like she is my little doll but I always kept in mind her taste and preference. Maybe that is why all my extra help led to such amazing results. As I grew up, people started addressing both of us as “sisters.”  I used to get very happy whenever somebody used to call us that as I knew that my help had been of some use. Over the years our relationship grew from that of  a daughter-mother to that of sisters and now we are more of friends.

Now that I am off to college and living in a hostel far away from my home things still remain the same. Whenever I need any advice she is the first person whom I call up for her advice and whenever my mother has to go out I give her suggestions via video calling and advise her about the latest trends on phone. My mother and I are more of friends now but even today when I do make mistakes she is there to scold me and correct me as my loving mother

A hug- simple yet perfect gift

My father has been my role-model and my super hero since my childhood. His selfless attitude his caring nature and his over protective nature has made me a humble and compassionate human being.  It was he who taught me how to love fellow human beings, how to forgive someone and move on. His little teachings in my childhood are now my mantras for life.

So to think about what gift would perfectly suit him on this father’s day was a very difficult task for me. A gift should be something which would be great use to that person or something which makes him happy. My father is now 60 and his son and daughter have grown up to be mature responsible adults just like he was. There is not even a single day when we don’t talk over the phone. We all realize how busy we all are with our lives but my father has always taught me that family comes first over all the other things. This is one of the many things he has taught me. So we all take out a bit of time from our busy schedules to talk to each other daily. Not only this we have made it a point to celebrate festivals at home like we used to do when we were children. As a child I used to wait eagerly for a festival as that would be the time when the whole family would be at home and we all would have our delicious meals cooked by my mother together. My father would take us out shopping or we would go on picnics and thus spend quality family time. It’s now I realize how important those festivals and holidays were which actually made us believe in this institution called family.

My father always led a very simple life and he believed that a simple man would achieve maximum success as he is not surrounded by many complexities. It is this advice which makes me going even today. He taught me that it depends on us what and how to make of our life. We can either make it simple or difficult. The path to a simple life is to have an optimistic attitude and a compassionate nature. This optimism is what I have inculcated in myself.

People say I remind them of my father a lot. From having the same birthmark on my nose to our personality we are kind of similar. I believe that though the birthmark was a gift from God but the habits and nature which I have got from my father is a result of his teachings and his philosophies. I just follow them and I am happy that people see his reflection in me.

To think of gifting such a holy man something is very difficult. So I decided to spend the entire day with him and as I met him after so many days I saw his bright smile. I went and hugged him tightly and whispered in his ears “Thank You” for making me who I am today.

People say mothers are an integral part of the family but we in that light sometimes forget the selfless contributions made by our fathers. It is in this spirit that we should take some time out of our lives and say how grateful we are to them for having them in our lives. A tight hug would be the best gift to compliment it with.

“This father’s day, I am expressing my love towards my dad by participating in the #HugYourDad activity at BlogAdda in association with Vicks.

A father..A teacher..A role model

A father is not only the support system of my family but also the person who is my mentor. A professor by profession he has handled both the responsibilities of a father and a mentor beautifully and responsibly. I can’t forget those moments when as a child he used to take out time from his busy schedule and read to me some poems by great poets like Tennyson and Yeats and I used to wonder what those poems used to mean. As I grew up he would tell me the meanings of those poems and in his own way make me understand how beautiful life is.

It was from him that I grew a fondness for poetry. I started writing couplets while I was very young and my father used to read them every day. He used to say that the way I express my emotions is unique and I should continue doing that.

A few years later my performance in studies went deteriorating. I was never the topper but I was a bright student. But that time somehow I couldn’t concentrate. I got really poor marks in my internals and in the finals I didn’t do well either.  My father being a professor knew that this was just a temporary phase in my life and this would go away. He was the one person not to lose any confidence in me when I myself had given up all the hope. I remember talking to him that evening all depressed and he listened to me calmly and then spoke at last “ A successful person is not one who wins every time. But someone who fails yet never gives up.” His words still echo in my ears and I can still picture myself sitting in our drawing room in front of his rocking chair.

Getting back my confidence I decided to write about my feelings. I needed a way to express myself. So it was then I started venting out my feelings in the form of a poem.  I wrote my first Haiku. I was firstly unaware of what style I was writing in but it was my father who pointed out that poem was a Haiku. He was very happy and greatly impressed by my work and he decided to publish my poem in a magazine. Next month my first publication came out in the monthly children’s magazine and my happiness knew no bounds. However there was one person who was happier than me- my father. He held my hand that day and told me that I would be a great poet one day.

Today when I look back I remember that day clearly. I remember how confident and positive I had felt when my father had held my hand that day. Now after graduating in English Honors from Delhi University, I write for a local newspaper these days. Though I generally write about political articles I also love to write poems and have written many sonnets and Haiku. Recently I wrote about my first hero-my dad. I dedicated that to my father on this father’s day. He rang me up after reading that poem and suddenly I had this urge to see him.

It had been months since I last saw him and so I decided to give him a surprise visit. As it was father’s day I bought a cake on my way to our house. I rang the bell and my mom opened it. I asked her where dad was and she pointed me to his study room. As I entered I saw through the opening of the door that my father was busy arranging documents in his files. I went up to him and saw that it was a photo copy of my poem which was dedicated to him and he was putting it with a bunch of other documents. I realized then that all those documents were my poems which I had been writing since childhood. I didn’t know how to react so I just hugged him tightly. I felt him crying and even I was overwhelmed by his emotions. He said in his choking voice “I have kept all your poems properly safe with me.” I thought I couldn’t give anything in return to him for showing so much love to me. I hugged him and said “Thank you for being my teacher and my father. I owe everything to you Dad.”

Smelly to smiley

The window panes looked spotless. The furniture was properly dusted and the floor was neatly cleaned. I had left no stone unturned to make my home look clean and tidy. My parents were coming home to see me after a long time and I wanted them to be proud of my organizational and maintenance skills. I must tell you here how difficult it is to keep the house clean in a rainy season with all the mud splattering and sandy winds blowing. To top it the humid and congested smell makes everything smell soiled and dingy. So to hide that smell I got some fresh flowers from my florist and decorated the whole house with fresh flowers.

After cleaning the house I decided to make some authentic Bengali food for them as they like it. So I started preparing poshto banta, aloo kopi sabzi (potato cauliflower curry) and tadka wala yellow dal (pulses) with steamed rice and payesh (kheer). After finishing the sabzi and poshto banta, I started preparing the dal and the payesh. The smell of the tadka had spread to the entire house and though I had switched on the exhaust fan but the odor was not going. The payesh made the situation worse as the smell of the tadka was now mixed with the smell of the kesar. It had a weird smell and as I stepped out of the kitchen I could no longer smell the fresh flowers. The smell of the food had overpowered the smell of the flowers. I did not know what to do.

Just then the doorbell rang and I knew it was my parents. I knew I had failed as a hostess and I walked towards the door in despair. I opened the door and hugged my parents tightly as I was seeing them after a long time. I welcomed them in and they couldn’t stop appreciating how beautiful and clean the house looked. However as they settled in they started cringing as they became familiar with the mixed smells in the house. The smell of the phenyl had mixed with the smell of ghee and kesar and had produced a very pungent and disgusting odor. My father told me to open all the windows and switch on the exhaust fan as the smell was repulsive. I tried spraying some room freshener but even its smell was just temporary.

It was my mother who told me about Ambi pur and how it just doesn’t cover the smell but completely removes it. She made me understand how important it is to have a freshener like ambi pur in your home as it will give your house that extra edge. When a house smells good people love to visit again. No one likes to visit a smelly place. No matter how lovely the house looks until it smells good no one would like to stay there. Saying this we went to a nearby supermarket and bought a pack of ambi pur room fresheners. I sprayed some in my home and to my surprise I couldn’t smell that nasty smell anymore. On the contrary my house smelled divine. My parents loved my food and we enjoyed our day sitting in the house eating snacks and enjoying the rain without worrying about the soiled smell as we knew we had ambi pur to our rescue.

Music Masti and Dance

After a long day of hard work in your office when you have to wait for a bus in the hot sultry weathers it is not a good thing. In Pune the situation of public transport is very poor. The plight of buses is such that they are very few in number and due to this they run on very long intervals. To top it the auto rickshaws had a strike which made commutation a nightmare. All this had made the situation for the public very depressing.

So as I was sitting on the bench drenched of all energy after the long day, I decided to just gaze into the street looking for some hope. Just when I was in lost in thought I saw a dance group on the back of a truck coming towards us. After a while the sound also became louder and I could clearly recognize Anushka Manchanda’s voice singing Dum maaro dum.

The truck stopped right in front of us and it was then I saw Allu Arjun the lead dancer of the group dancing in style to Anushka’s music. Suddenly the whole street which was a few seconds ago without any fervor was energized by their presence and the people who were till now sitting dully on the benches of the bus stop had joined the crowd and started dancing with others. Anuhka later sang allah duhai hai and dance basanti which made the crowd ecstatic. I was no longer tired and was busy dancing in tunes of her songs and trying to copy Allu Arjuns’s moves. I wondered how adorable he looked and how sexy Anushka looked. Their pair was as hot as the weather.

Anushka then changed her music genre from Bollywood to indipop which made the crowd go crazy. She later joined the dancers and Allu Arjun and they both danced in style and with grace. All the people standing there were in awe of their performance. They had forgotten how dull their lives had been a few moments ago. After the show ended we were handed over pamphlets of their up-coming performance in Balwandi Stadium that week. The show was a part of the promotional activity and as the truck moved forward making its way through the crowd, I promised myself that I would definitely go to see their event with my friends and get a break from the dull and monotonous routine in my life. What better way than to listen and groove to the tunes of Anushka Manchanda and dance along with Allu Arjun. As I was contemplating my future plans, I heard my bus coming and with a cheerful mood I boarded it.

An evening with Anushka Manchanda and Allu Arjun

It’s the time for college fests in Delhi University and like every other college we want our college fest to be the best. Being the President of our college union I was asked to prepare a rough proposal of all the stars who I would think would be good and will be willing to come to our college. After a lot of mind boggling ideas about various superstars I came up with two names – Allu Arjun and Anushka Manchanda.

Allu arjun is a superstar of telgu cinema and his popularity is known by all. We students are mostly aware of his achievements and his dance moves are something to die for.  His latest movie ABCD 2 is all set to release this Friday and this will make his presence in our college a much hyped event. Anushka manchanda is a playback singer and also plays various instruments like piano, guitar and flute. Her indipop music is soothing as well as peppy. This combination would make our fests the biggest hit in the entire University.

When I proposed my plan in-front of my professors they were also as excited as I was. I realized that even they were a big fan of Anushka’s voice and Allu Arjun’s dance steps. They even accepted my idea of having a duet performance of them rather than calling them on for different events. A mix of indipop music and western dance moves would be a treat to everyone’s eyes. The proposal was agreed upon and the rest of the formalities such as inviting them to our college for their performance, selling of tickets and popularizing our event were made. The tickets for their performance were sold like a forest on fire. We were pretty sure this was going to be the best fest of that year.

our fest started on a very low note as the key note address was quite boring and the students gradually started leaving expecting the fest to be the same like previous years. I was disappointed to see my fellow students getting depressed but I promised them that they won't be disappointed in the evening.
The evening had set in and our college campus was filled with a huge crowd. The maximum turnout it had ever seen in many years. Though we had already declared that there were no more tickets yet there was a huge crowd waiting outside the gate just to catch a glimpse of the celebrities. Those who had the tickets felt lucky and our college students felt like they were the boss.  After sometime the stars arrived and we had a tough time managing security.

Anushka and Allu Arjun were very down to earth and greeted everybody with warmth and smile. Even they were quite surprised to see such a huge turnout for a college event. Before Anushka and Allu's show we had a DJ ready so that the crowd wont get bored. The DJ, however, was not up to the mark and everybody started getting bored.they were starting to lose their interest. So as soon as they arrived and an announcement was made of their arrival the crowd got very impatient. But their impatience was treated with delight when they heard the lovely voice of Anuska Manchanda. After a while they were mesmerized to see the duet performance of Anushka and Allu Arjun. All the girls in my college were going gaga over Allu Arjun’s moves as he danced his way all over the stage. Anushka’s peppy and sexy voice made a lot of boys rolling their eyes in surprise. The whole crowd was energised and were dancing and singing along with their favourite stars. The crowd was treated with a mix of songs ranging from "zindagi rocks, money money to mit jaaye gum and allah duhai hai". Everybody was in awe of this pair which made its way to the headlines in the next day publication of Delhi times. Our college fest was featured on the front page of a popular newspaper and at last the dream of making my fest a success came true. Thanks to Allu Arjun and Anushka Manchanda.

BOOK REVIEW:-SHATTERED DREAMS- (RAMAYANA THE GAME OF LIFE)

This is my first book from Blogadda which I received for reviewing. I have always loved Indian Mythology and reading and reviewing Ramayana gave me immense pleasure. It brought back all the memories of my childhood when my mother used to tell me stories about the mighty Rama.

The book is the second part to the trilogy named Ramyana-The book of life.  The book’s cover was eye catching with Rama sleeping in a distressed mood. The cover made my excitement grew more as I had not read the previous book. I knew the author would have made some changes to the original book by inculcating aspects throwing light on our daily life.

Twelve peaceful and beautiful years have passed since the marriage of Rama and Sita and a new saga is about to unfold as King Dashratha announces his elder son Rama as the new heir to the throne in the absence of Bharat and Laxman. Everyone seemed happy by this decision except Manthra who was loyal to her queen kaikeyi and wanted to see her as the king’s mother. She manipulates the queen to take her stand for his son. What unfolds next is known by everyone as to how Rama is sentenced to fourteen years of exile. This journey of ram and his wife sita from a world full of riches to a world of misery in jungle has always enthralled me. Their loyalty towards each other, their love and compassion and their courage till date inspires us to draw strength from them. It helps us reflect our own miseries which seems quite tiny in front of theirs.

The ever popular saying which describes that ‘promises cannot be broken’ is the essence of the story. Dashratha knows that ayodhya can have no better ruler than Rama but he is bound by his promise to Kaikeyi. So what if the promise itself is responsible for taking his life. The entire struggle which Rama and sita goes through makes us believe that a person can go through any trouble if he is with his loved one.

The book tells us the story of Ramayana in the light of today’s world. The footnotes help us in understanding some contexts in a better way. The translations for some of the Sanskrit words are also given in the footnote which gives us a clearer picture.

It was a refreshing experience to read an epic Mythological book like Ramayana with a new twist. The life experiences can be well related in our day to day life. So we can take a lot after reading this book to implement in our lives. Some good points that have been added here is the strong character portrayal of Bharat. His stance and his character has been brought out very nicely.

Also some scenes have been described so vividly that we can actually create our own visual image. One such scene is when Rama puts a garland around Sita and Sita does the same but by using her eyes. That simple moment was so romantic that I could actually imagine that whole scene ( had a wishful thinking too!!)

So all in all Ramyana -the book of life is a book which is not just about mythology but it goes beyond that to enable us to to reflect on our own lives through its teachings. I am really hopeful and excited to read its third part now also.

ASUS- The next generation smartphone

ASUS- The name says it all. This brand doesn't need any introduction as it is famous for producing laptops, net book, phones and hardware equipments. Joining this elite brand is its new phone ASUS ZENFONE 2. Asus zenfone is a beautifully crafted phone which comes in various colors. This phone can be customized further according to your own requirement. Not only this phone looks good but its display is even better. It has a 5.5 vivid inch HD display which makes everything we see look better, bigger and more beautiful. This phone has variety of features which makes it one jumbo combo. It has an excellent visual design and also has features like Snapview, Zenmotion and trend micro security. Also it gets instant updates for all leading apps. All these features makes it user friendly phone and ensures great experience.

This is just the beginning though. Asus Zenfone 2 is loaded with feature which makes it irresistible to buy. While buying any phone what I look for is first its processor. With 4GB RAM and 2.3 GHz 64 bit intel atom Z3580 processor, this phone works with lightning fast speed and so you can complete all your work in no time. You can play games without any interruptions without the fear of your phone freezing. Also having pre installed android 5.0(lollipop) gives it an extra edge.

Second thing which I demand in my Smartphone is a good battery life. ASUS guarantees a long battery life with a turbo charger which charges 60% of your phone in 39 minutes. It has a 3000 mAh Li-Polymer battery which supports its long battery life.

Thirdly, having a good camera is a must nowadays. Gone are those days when we used to carry digital cameras with us. Now is the time of having phones with superior quality camera. Asus assures of clarity with its 13MP rear camera. The low light mode enables it to capture photos in the dark or in a low light without the need of flash. So there will be no more photos where your eye blinks due to flash light and the whole photo gets ruined.
Also with a 5MP front camera video chatting is made easy. There will be no more complaints regarding visual clarity during skype calls. Also taking selfies will be fun and exciting with a 5MP front camera.

Fourthly, Zenfone 2 has this amazing feature of switching seamlessly during calls from one sim to another. Having dual sim is not a big thing now but to switch from one sim to another during calls is a special feature of this phone.

Fifthly, what I need in my phone is an ample amount of storage space. Even this aspect is fully covered by Asus as it has three different versions of storage capacity available- 16/32/64 GB. One can choose according to its need regarding how much space it would want. This comes after Asus provides 5GB lifetime ASUS web storage.

I would definitely recommend my friend to buy Asus Zenfone 2 as it is a marvel of beauty and power in the palm of our hands.
