I was lucky enough to witness  Dastangoi, by Nadeem Shah and Manu Sikander Dhingra in our college premises yesterday. Dastangoi is one of the ancient forms of urdu story telling which is now one of the dying art forms. Dastangoi is made up by joining two persian words- dastan which means story and goi which means tell a story and literally it means to tell a story.

Dastangoi was revived back to life in India in 2005 and since then the famous writer and director Mahmood Farooqui has played an important role in revival of this dying art form.

The duo of Nadeem Shah and Manu Sikander Dhingra presented one of the many dastan's namely "Dastan-e Chouboli". The story was about Princess Chouboli, who had taken a vow that she would marry only on the condition if someone makes her speak four times in one night. Many charismatic and brave princes tried to accomplish this simple task but failed and were made prisoners in her palace. The story takes a turn when a young new bride dressed as a man comes before Princess Chouboli to make her speak four times as her husband who was the 'thakur' of a village had failed to do so and was hence was taken to be one of the prisoners. In order to set  her husband free she comes before Chouboli and narrates four extraordinary stories. Chouboli is totally engrossed in her stories and as a result she replies everytime the young bride asks her a question and everytime she speaks the sound of "nagadas" fills the palace. This continues for four times and finally the young bride holding her husband's sword gets married to Chouboli and in dowry asks for her husband.

At night she reveals her true identity to Princess Chouboli and also says that she is now married to her husband as she was carrying his sword. Both of these brides tell the whole story to the husband on his way back home and in return for secrecy tells him not to be anymore a self centered chauvinist but be respectful towards women. It is said that after that the husband who was "The Thakur" of the village prospered a lot and did many welfare activities for his village by taking the advice of his young bride and Princess Chouboli.

Dastangoi is an amazing thing to see with all the attention on its speakers. I must admit the performance by Nadeem Shah and Manu Sikander Dhingra was completely enthralling and appealing.Their voices, their demeanor were the essence of dastangoi.

I wish this art gets promoted and gest the required attention which it deserves.

Its the month of march and its spring season in India.Spring is the time when  everywhere there is greenery and Nature is at its best. Also we get a chance to see beautiful flowers of varied colors during this season.Similar was the scene of my college garden a few days back and I couldn't help myself from capturing some of those beautiful flowers in my phone.

Here a few pictures I am going to share with you people.

This photo is of the pink dahlia flower which with its beauty captured my attention at the very beginning.

This red and white dahlia flower looks like it has been painted by GOD himself. The colors are so perfectly mixed that it hardly seems real.

This magnificent yellow dahlia flower looks simply beautiful and the green leaves are complementing the flower.

hope you like these photos and I will share more photos in my next blog.

Total Siyappa:Movie Review

Total siyappa is a great family entertainer, however after the interval it loses its charm and we can't help but feel sorry for Aman played by Ali Zafar. The story gets very monotonous and apart from Ali's cute and ever brightening smile there is nothing which helps us in bearing that movie.

As is pretty obvious from the movie trailers that Aman is a pakistani boy who is truly and deeply in love with Asha (played by Yami gautam who as usual looks beautiful in the movie)who is an Indian and the story revolves on how her family reacts on finding out that she actually wants to marry a pakistani boy and the big question remains whether her family will accept her decision or not.

I bet the costume designer of this movie would have had lots of free time available as we see the whole cast wearing just one costume all through the movie. It would have been refreshing to see some other costumes as well. But keeping in mind that the whole "siyappa" happened in one day itself ,the makers maybe then decided to go with one costume itself to make it look authentic.

The songs are pretty decent and Ali zafar's voice is pretty soothing.All in all its a one time watch movie and as expected the story ends with a happy note with ''AMAN KI ASHA''.;

Recently I got a chance to watch a movie with my friends called "shaddi ke side effects" , a sequel to" Pyaar ke side effects" starring Rahul bose and Mallika sherawat.Shaddi ke side effects like its prequel was a hillarious movie with brilliant performance by Farhan Akhtar and Vidya Balan, who with their comic timing and excellent acting proved themselves to be perfect for the lead pair. The movie is about "secrets to a happy marraige and its USP lies in its simplicity and how any one can relate him/her to its main lead.

Shaddi ke side effects tells the story of siddhath roy played by farhan akhtar who as a child has seen his parents get divorced and how he decides not to repeat the same mistake again. However when vidya balan gets pregnant with his child things change a lot.The story traces the life of siddharth after the child is born and there is not a moment in the film when you dont feel like maybe in the future you will do the same. The story ends with a happy note but with a beautiful message that there is nothing like a "secret to a happy marraige".The only thing which guarantees a happy marraige is how loyal and truthful you are to your partner. This my friend is the ultimate truth.

Pritish Nandy Communications in association with Balaji Motions has produced this movie. The songs in the movie are pretty cool and its title track deserves to get 5 stars.
